I designed my room with comfort as the ultimate goal. Many times I've stayed in rooms that were beautiful but without warmth or comfort. I wanted a room that achieved both. With this in mind, I made the bed the focal point of the room and selected luxurious Peacock Alley bedding consisting of 500 thread count sheets, a cashmere warming blanket and a quilted satin matelasse topped by a goose down comforter, from which you will never want to surface. Inside tip - all of the bedding was purchased from the charming store Ellie Michael, which you can find on the Molengracht in downtown Pella.

The furniture throughout the room is simple, sturdy and with clean lines. A corner fireplace is flanked by a cushioned rattan chair beside which I always keep an ample supply of books and magazines. Directly above the fireplace is a TV/VCR unit. Both the fireplace and TV/VCR can be directly viewed and enjoyed from the bed.

The bath is class spa style in gray and white marble and contains a shower fitted with an oversized massaging showerhead as well as a giant soaking tub. Please enjoy the terry cloth robes provided as well as the quality bath products.

When you've finished soaking in the tub, you can lounge in the sunporch on the overstuffed chair and ottoman while enjoying the sweeping view and a cup of coffee or tea accompanied by my all-time favorite Dutch pastry, the puff pillow.

One last thing - please make use of the CDs and CD player provided on the nightstand. You will find a bit of everything in this small collection but my personal favorites include Diana Krall and Norah Jones.

I'm Valerie and I've been in the Bandstra family for a decade! I'm married to Jason, Ron and Kathy's second oldest son. We live on a farm located about 10 miles south of Pella. We have 34 Holsteins (those are dairy cows to you non-Iowans), 2 dogs and 1 cat. Our next big project is to begin on-farm milk and cheese production.

I am a corporate attorney with the Brown, Winick law firm in Des Moines. I commute to Des Moines four days each week and on Thursdays I work out of the firm's branch office in Pella (where I have direct and easy access to the afore-mentioned puff pillows). When I'm not working (or driving) I love to cook, eat or read anything about cooking and eating. My claim to fame is my recipe for "Blue Ribbon Banana-Macadamia Nut Muffins" which took first place at last year's state fair. (I've given legal licensing rights to de Boerderij so you may be lucky enough to sample them during your stay.) I also enjoy traveling, jazz, reading, yoga and shopping. Most of all, Jason and I love spending time with our friends and families, whom we feel so blessed to be a part of.

I sincerely hope you enjoy the room, your stay at de Boerderij and your visit to Pella.

What a delight it was to stay in your beautiful room. Its strong design created with dark wood and different textures is very elegant! It was a pleasure to be here. We also enjoyed Kathy's wonderful cooking (and conversation).
